I would always recommend that you use the same company for both your
domain name registration and web hosting, simply because you only have
to deal with just the one company in the event that anything should go
wrong with your website. I am so very glad that I made this decision
years ago, because whenever I want to ask a question about something, I
need only to ask 123-Reg about it and not another company as well.
I
love the ease and comfort with which 123-Reg have created their domain
name search controls. That was one of the things that first attracted
me way back when I was looking to buy my own domain name. Although I
had used Godaddy (And still do occasionally use Godaddy) to purchase

the process of transferring domain names as easy as possible (something
I have only done a couple of times) and with their help department (not
to mention a very helpful bog) I know I can get the help I need should
there be problems, and this is an issue I will mention next.
You see although there will be cheaper domain name registrars than
123-Reg somewhere on the internet, for me price is not as important as
having a help department I can rely on. Should there be any issues with
a website being down you will lose far more than a few pounds that you
could otherwise have saved on domain name registering. I would prefer
to spend a little more and get the help I need when I need it, rather
than be in serious trouble with a problem I don’t know how to fix but a
couple of extra quid in my back pocket. That money would be gone
through lost website earnings in no time!
123-Reg web hosting is pretty customizable too. By that I mean that
there are several different packages available to suit most wallets.
When I first started out with 123-Reg I used their most basic package
(called the starter package, funnily enough!) but found over time that
I needed more web space than was initially allowed back then to suit my
growing website needs. I had just started offering free downloads on my
site and quickly used up the web space that was allotted to my
particular hosting package type.
So I decided to upgrade my hosting package to the next level (which was
called basic plus) and with this got even more features for my website
which give me the web space I needed and allowed me additional
databases (great for setting up things like blogs, members areas and
help departments) and things like that. The funny thing with upgrading
your website for even more features is that you like having access to
them more and more, until you eventually decide to upgrade your website
again to get yet more features available to you!
So then I upgraded my hosting one last time to the highest package
(called Linux Unlimited Yearly) which gave me both unlimited web space and also
unlimited traffic, with a thousand databases’ and plenty more goodies
too! For now this should be good enough for this website - but lets
face it you can never say never - we might be upgrading it again soon!
Some
of the other features I have not yet explained include the
